I saw this one at Walmart and could not help myself! Suki Goldpetal;

I love her dress! My mom always had pottery with these white and blue patterns.

I didn’t notice the kintsugi (The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with sap/adhesive and gold) until literally just now! It’s on both her dress and body. That’s a brilliant touch. If you’re not familiar with Kintsugi, it’s more than just repairing a broken vase (or whatever) in a fancy way. It shows that broken things are not useless, hence using adhesive (sap if you’re old school) and gold to repair the broken object. The vase (or whatever) has been repaired with a valued thing, gold, showing that it is still valuable and serves a purpose. And, someone cared enough to do it. Because the vase was broken, it’s golden scars made it even more beautiful. The concept gels well with human beings. It translates.

I wonder if she has a backstory to reflect why there’s kintsugi on her body and dress? Her body resembles fine china, the kind my mom always had around the house when I was a kid. How and why was she broken? Who repaired her in the context of kintsugi? Hmmm. The back of the box doesn’t say a lot, but it does mention that Suki’s emotions are “fragile”. Punny joke, speaking on her emotional state, or both?

I’m reading waaay too much into this, but it’s cool!

Anyhoo!

When I saw this doll, I made a beeline straight to it. I immediately thought she could be a great base doll for my 💙Mana-Sama💙 custom project, considering she already resembles him in quite a few ways. However, I’ve decided I really like Miss Suki Goldpetal in her present form. I shall debox and display her at some point. I hope there’s a stand in the box. I’ll take better pics if so!
