Looong Post: Horror on the Brain + Other Photos + Lots of Backlog

I started out editing pictures of a cute outfit I bought from dollsydoll on Etsy, and it turned into a horror movie.

The end. My horror-loving brain took over at some point. I wanted a b-movie look, hence the frame. Now that I think of it, this reminds me of a poster for the 60s movie *Black Sunday.*

Classic Horror film by Mario Bava, 1960. I looove this poster. I think it’s my subconscious inspiration to illuminate eyes.

The first pic accidentally got a wee bit spooky.

Yeahhh. I do like it though! I think I made her facial features change, or am I seeing things? I really love playing around with eyes, lips, hair and shadows. It’s almost like Barbie had some plastic surgery!

I seem to like illuminating eyes if the picture is dark. She’s a custom Kuchisaki Onna (slit-mouth woman) doll by Custom Horror Dolls By Will Turner on eBay, who I’ve bought a number of dolls from. I highly recommend looking it up if you’re a doll collecting horror hound! Search the Japanese urban legend too, it’s one of my favourites.

Midge-ness!

Dreamhouse Midge modelling a new top & cardigan coat thing. I used the new dollsydoll necklace a bunch. I got this because…orange. I 🧡 orange.

There’s the whole outfit. The tasseled boots are what I really wanted to show. I don’t know how many filters I put on this. It was a lot and took ages. Still doesn’t look how I wanted either 😆

Casey!

Casey modelling a new Aliexpress getup. I think I over edited with a trillion filters, tweaks, then more filters and tweaks. The pants are really neat, they’re two shades of purple. 💜💜💜 My favourite colour. This doesn’t really show anything well so I’ll post the outfits on their own. I used the new necklace again because why not

Original logo! I’ve been a huge Britney Spears fan since age twelve, so I was pretty excited to find this! It was a nice surprise because the AliEx page didn’t show the whole thing.

Mattel’s 1999 Daphne Blake doll in an outfit that is boring except for the pants and shoes. This doll has a really pretty face, I LOVE a side glance. More orange, yay!

Vampiress! An older pic I finally did something with.

I really like this. After adding a background, I kept putting filters on and tweaking it because I could not decide what atmosphere I wanted. This doll broke my effing wallet, btw. I looove her. This was the *least* expensive one on eBay because she was out of box.

Ginger girl!

My beautiful ginger XianXian doll. Bikini top belongs to a Tuesday Taylor doll, so it’s a bit loose. She needs a name. Should I just name her Ginger?

Don’t recall if I posted this previously and I’m too lazy to check. She is gorgeous. The hair on these dolls is so nice, soft, and shiny. I love how it reflects light in photos.

I did post this but I like it so here it is again. My first time using VSCO. That particular filter did a lot for the reflected colours. All clothes are from AliEx. The choker thingamabob is from XianXian and is actual metal. It clicks around the neck magnetically. The silver choker and earrings are part of the same set. It’s a futuristic style from XianXian. There were also solid metal visors, but I don’t have them yet.

Take me to the Underworld!

Ooak Greek god Hades I bought from dakotas.song on eBay! He’s so pretty and you can tell that the artist worked hard on him. It can be seen in the handmade clothing/accessories, facial painting, and long black reroot. That hair almost reaches the floor! I bought him in December of last year. He, wallet-busting vampiress, vintage mod girls, and the other customs stayed in a huge Demonia boots shoebox for months, because cats. 😅 The room meant for displaying all my collectibles isn’t ready.

Very handsome face, I wonder what was the original doll? Love the added black liner. I have long been a fan of guyliner. Oh yes, please give me more guyliner!

Time to Slay Some Backlog!!

I got my dudes some quality denim. Accidentally bought two but I shan’t complain! They were about $7-8 each. From Amazon, brand is e-ting, e.ting, or something like that. So much better than the cheap, thin, printed, overpriced, landfill-bound garbage that Mattel insists are Barbie clothes.

Never mind my complaining. I got some parts of newer Mattel outfits in a lot and the quality was SO in the toilet, I almost tossed them IN the toilet. The thing I hated most was supposed to look like a denim vest. It did not. I donated that to a thrift store along with some of my less-loved dolls and clothes. Someone should enjoy it at least.

This is where dolls and ugly clothes went. *DESPAIR.*

Mattel has really given Barbie the shaft.

This is a brunette Holiday Barbie, not Theresa. Fooled me! 😅 The hair is so pretty and soft. I washed and conditioned it and the hair did not react well, like at all. I thought it was ruined, but by some act of godly benevolence, the part with horrible frizz somehow fixed itself over the course of a few weeks?! HOW. It also became about thrice as big and fluffy! It got so huge I had to give her a ponytail to break up the volume. I liked her hair before as well, and I don’t think the hair even needed a wash. I want to find another of this doll so I can also have one with the equally beautiful original hair.

I have the urge to clean every second hand item I get, especially dolls. I’ve gotten more reasonable about that recently. I wash the dolls always, but for the hair, it depends on how it looks when I check the scalp and go through the hair to be sure no mystery substance is stuck in it. That’s happened. It’s icky.

Pants and beautifully-fitting turtleneck brought to you by Temu. I looove a turtleneck and am always looking for them as well as tops that aren’t cropped. *I want to tuck them in, dammit!*

90s Barbie looks beautiful as a brunette. Her eye colour also changed to brown.

Had an Odile before I ever heard of an Odile. Someone rebodied and dressed her up all cute. She looks pink and sassy. 🌸

Ooak doll! have seen her face before, can’t put my finger on it. She looks ghostly, which is why I purchased her! The seller/doll artist is dakotas.song on eBay~ This is the second custom from them! I tend to be a loyal customer if I love what I got the first time!

I checked the old listing and she’s Black Label somethingorother and has the Karl Lagerfield face. I knew I recognised it someplace else. This doll artist does repaints that are more on the realistic side. Very pretty, and they have a few for sale at the moment!

I can’t ever decide whether the atmosphere in her pics should appear warm or cold. Here’s a colder one. I tried to do a mixture of both in the castle picture, did I succeed or no?

Fashion Avenue!

Teen Skipper! Can’t remember which, I’d have to check the box. I coveted lots of Fashion Avenue packs. I don’t recall having a teen Skipper but this was one of the packs I really wanted. It was so my style at that time. Also shiny. I had Barb clothes with that kind of material and loved how it felt on my fingers. Both Skipper and the outfit were found at an Antique Mall! You will notice a number of things in the following were found there. I so need to go back.

Came with a booklet of more teen Skipper fashions!

Her eyes are a gorgeous blue aquamarine. Love love love it.

Redressed!

I would 100% wear these shoes. I would wear this whole outfit. If I had this in my size back then..I would have gone bananas! Limited/Limited Too had some clothes in the same retro style vein. (Like my bright orange bell bottoms with attached metal flower belt lol) Skipper’s outfit is reminiscent of the mod 60s, but updated for the 90s!

Another Christie from the Antique Mall, I think this is called Sweetheart something? I’d yet again have to look at the box. I kept her in the original outfit because it’s orange🧡and those necklaces can’t be taken off without scissors! I might add some stuff to pizazz it up. 🙂

Casey! This is my favourite face mold! Bad pic though, sorry.

Seems my Casey and Francie dolls are too short for the standard Barb stand, so she’s levitating. And shoeless.

This is 1970 New Dramatic Living whatever Barbie with the freaky bod, and this is how she “stands”. I have a bunch more of them and have come to *really* dislike those bodies. They just….flop. Want to put em on a stand? **FLOP.** Want to have them sit normally on a shelf? **FLUMP**! I certainly won’t turn down a cheap one in good condition though 😬

Look at this Dramatic Living dirty bird. I got her for a total of $15 because the seller probably didn’t know much about it. The neck peg broke and the previous owner fixed this by jamming the head down onto the neck. The head is perfectly fine and not really dirty, but the body..and the clothes…omg. It’s in quarantine. It’s been in quarantine. I don’t feel like touching that. Also,….FLOP!

Oh yeah the head has its own quarantine box.

I washed my hands three times after handling this doll’s parts. The grossness was not mentioned or shown by the seller.

To the left is a titian new dramatic living something something Barbie, but she doesn’t have the body, thank god. Must have been rebodied by some kind soul. No flopping. To the right is 1966 brunette Chocolate Bon Bon Barbie. You can obviously see there’s unfortunate vinyl spotting going on with her legs. Dramatic has a more aesthetically annoying problem. Legs can be covered.

It was probably a rat nip but whatever. Cat foot, cat hand, cat chin, cat nose, cat maul. Cat everything, I always assume a cat did it. Anyhoo, I know how to fix this, so I was okay with buying her. Same with Chocolate Bon Bon. When I get around to working on these two, I’ll document it step-by-step.

Can’t find the full body. Tangerine Twist!

Tiffany Taylor, basically an 18” Tuesday Taylor. They are pretty dolls. I love their eyes and they also have rooted eyelashes.

She needs a hook and a sassy parrot. I do have a hand donor, I’m just lazy.

This Francie! Don’t know which she is. Seller didn’t specify. So cute!! Her hair is in great condition, I don’t think any kids ever got ahold of her.

Stacey when I received her! I flipped out! PERFECTLY STYLED HAIR. And in such good condition! 😍 I couldn’t find a flaw. I didn’t feel the usual intense urge I have to wash her hair. I’m assuming she came from a collector’s home.

She was damaged. I had to glue a few things back on and the whole ordeal was one giant swear word. My meaty lumberjack fingers were not made to handle delicate things. This pic isn’t of the repaired doll. She’s really pretty but way taller than a Barb or XianXian. I’m not sure what stand I need.

Some My Scene dolls! One is Chloe. The other might also be Chloe. I can’t remember! I got Madison too but I EFFING RUINED HER HAIR! 😭

Forgot all about her! Brunette 1968 Talking Barbie. I’m working on getting bodies for all the heads I’ve collected. She’s not getting a Talking Barbie body. Nooo.

This guy! Someone rerooted and did a little face paint. I know they painted the eyes green. I seem to remember that the head is from a Superman doll. I really like the face mold, particularly because of the nose!

Tell me…should I make him elf ears? He looks like he should be elven. I think I will have to take off a lot of that neck to fit him on a mtm Ken body. He came to me with on a slim Ken body and it looked incredibly silly. The connection of head to neck looked mismatched. I took the head off as soon as I opened the package 😆 I bought this for the head, not the body. No biggie, but I hope I can find a match that isn’t $40+!

Custom EGL Bratz, named Dahlia! She’s looking kind of rough but this was taken sometime around January. I didn’t fix *anything.* She’s customised by oceanblueplus on eBay and they even sent a cute drawing with her!

Wishlist dolls I recently got!

2012 Dolls of the World United Kingdom! I was dying to have her but also wasn’t willing to pay what sellers were asking. Then I found a reasonably priced one on Mercari and snapped it up SO fast! I’ve seen this doll nib ranging from roughly $50 to $150! That’s bonkers. I think I paid $60.

Repro Golden Dream Christie! I saw a review of this reproduction and it wasn’t all good. It might be best to leave her in box 🙁 I had looked forward to fixing up my craggedy looking Golden Dream Barbie and displaying them together. I might take her out to see if there are any reasons to not display her.

Love that Steffie face! Sellers were asking ridiculous amounts for this repro too, like $150-200. I found this reasonably priced on Etsy. You just have to wait for the right seller sometimes.

Oh no! I almost forgot about 1994 Dolls of the World Germany!

My dad’s dad (very unwillingly) immigrated to the US from Germany when things started getting dangerously weird over there. Some of the culture remained in the family, so of course dad made certain I had German Barbie! I had some of the other countries, but she was my favourite.

I saw her on eBay for cheap and bought her out of pure nostalgia. I opened the box a little while later and EW. I have NO clue how stuff got in the box, but it did. I now realise I have lost some of the pics I took. Fudge.
